About the role

DataNow is a finance automation consultancy helping accounting firms and business owners streamline their financial operations through smart use of automation, integrations, and AI. We work across a growing portfolio of clients — including ABA therapy clinics, law firms, agricultural businesses, ecommerce brands, and UK fleet management companies — building the systems that connect their accounting platforms to the rest of their business. We're looking for a Finance Automation Technician to join the team and help design, build, and maintain automated workflows that keep our clients' books accurate, their reporting fast, and their processes running without manual intervention. This is a hands-on, high-variety role. No two weeks look the same — one day you might be reconciling a Xero-to-Zoho intercompany sync, the next you're building a Make.com scenario that pulls QuickBooks reports into a client dashboard, or using AI tools to troubleshoot a tricky API integration. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to keep learning and grow at the intersection of accounting and technology. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING • Building, testing, and maintaining automated workflows (primarily in Make.com, with exposure to n8n) that connect accounting platforms, spreadsheets, and other business systems • Working directly within client accounting systems — categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, creating journals, and troubleshooting data discrepancies • Supporting the build-out of client-facing dashboards and reporting tools (Google Sheets, Supabase-backed apps, Vercel-deployed dashboards) • Using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) to help build, debug, and extend automation scripts and small internal tools • Documenting workflows and processes clearly so systems are maintainable and easy to hand over or scale • Liaising with clients and bookkeepers where needed to gather information or clarify financial data • Picking up new projects and tools as our client base and service offering grows WHAT WE OFFER • Full-time, fully remote position • Salary in the range of R20,000 – R40,000/month depending on experience • Exposure to a wide variety of industries and clients rather than a single company's books • Direct mentorship in modern finance automation and AI-assisted tooling — genuinely current, in-demand skills • Room to grow as the business and client base expands

Requirements

ACCOUNTING FOUNDATION • Solid understanding of core accounting principles (debits/credits, the accounting equation, accruals, reconciliations, financial statement structure) • Practical, hands-on experience with one or more of: QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Books, Sage, or similar accounting systems • A formal qualification is not required — a BCom in Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, or similar, and/or a diploma/2-year accounting course, is a strong plus, but relevant hands-on experience will also be considered TECHNICAL SKILL SET • Comfortable working with automation platforms — Make.com experience preferred, n8n experience a bonus • Familiarity with, or strong willingness to learn, AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor • Basic understanding of databases (e.g. Supabase, or similar) and how data flows between systems • Some exposure to deployment tools like Vercel is a bonus, but not essential • Strong general "figure-it-out" tech aptitude — this role rewards curiosity and comfort with new tools more than any single certification PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES • Detail-oriented — this work touches real client financial data, so accuracy matters • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote setup • Good written communication for documenting processes and liaising with clients • Genuine interest in the overlap between finance, technology, and AI NICE TO HAVE (NOT REQUIRED) • Prior experience in a bookkeeping, accounts, or finance admin role • Experience with API-based integrations or reading API documentation • Exposure to Python or JavaScript for light scripting • Experience with e-commerce platforms (e.g. Shopify, WooCommerce) or fleet/logistics systems
